Chapter 12
Bear
I pulled up in front of one of the old warehouses outside of town. I knew it was a place the Hellhounds use to use. This was a smart move. If any Hounds were looking for anything suspicious, they’d probably look at Guardian sights, not here. That was Pete though, always one step ahead on the thinking.
Elias pulled his monster of a truck in behind me. Luckily, no one would recognize the vehicle since he’d been gone so long and everyone would suspect he’d be on a bike.
“Don’t go in here acting a fool,” I warned as Elias joined me.
“Why would I do that? Pete knows me. I mean, we spoke once or twice when I went to see my mom. He is like Billy badass...”
“Stop talking, E.” I rolled my eyes. “He is not evil, like your dad, but he is still no-nonsense. So, don't go in there making your usual lame attempt at jokes…”
“Lame”
“Eli.”
“Damn. Y’all are no fun. Okay.”
I rapped a few times on the door, and then turned the knob looking behind us. No tail. “Come on, man,” I said shoving Eli in before me.
“The paw hands gotta stop, Bear. Jeezus,” Elias grumbled.
“Shut the hell up. You shouldn’t even be here.”
“Truer words have not been spoken.” Pete’s voice filled the space. “Elias. What are you doing here?”
Elias looked at me, blinking. What light filled the warehouse was sparse at best, and Pete sat behind a makeshift bar, sipping a glass of scotch, I wished like fuck I could get a glass of.
“I um…” He looked from me to Pete and back again.
“Don’t look at me, punk; you invited yourself, better start explaining,” I muttered.
“Asshole,” he spoke out the side of his mouth at me.
“Been called hell of a lot worse.” I kicked at his booted feet, sending him barreling forward in Pete's direction.
“Are you two done?” The older man asked, clearly annoyed with our antics.
Elias looked up at Pete. Throwing a dirty look at me over his shoulder, he hopped up from the ground. “You had to know I'd be here, Pete. My mom can’t keep a secret to save her life.”
Pete chuckled and took a sip of his scotch. “That too is the damn truth, which is why I know my daughter is lurking in the shadows as well… Tangie you might as well join us.”
My breath caught at the mention of her name. Pete never said Tangie would be here, not that I didn’t want to see her. God knows I wanted to see her, but not like this, not under these circumstances with her dad and her older brother staring at me.
But my mind willed her into the room.
Princess.
I missed her.
“Tangela, I know you are here, daughter. If you don’t come out here.”
The woman of my dreams, my desire, my every hard-ass, wet dream stepped out of the shadows, all woman. No more teen, no more scared young adult but a confident woman at nearly twenty-eight-year-old. Her natural hair was wild and hung free over her slender shoulders.
